The Shaftesbury Food Festival and Gold Hill Cheese Races have, sadly, been postponed because of coronavirus.
The event was due to take place on Sunday 3rd May. Organiser James Thrift says the decision to postpone was made this morning. “We are mindful that many of our traders will be having a very tough year, so if we can re-schedule the event for the autumn, all the better. We’ll keep monitoring the situation and do whatever we can,” said James.
Organisers are considering an October date. We’ll let you know on Alfred when we have more information about that.
The Grosvenor Arms Hotel has also postponed the rest of their Spring Talks series because of coronavirus concerns. “The talks have been a huge success. We’ve built up a real momentum and we want to thank everyone for their support,” said Sam Hill, general manager of The Grosvenor Arms. “We’ll resume in September and October with a full programme. We’ll be refunding any tickets that have been purchased for the postponed events,” he added.
This Thursday, Natasha Musson was scheduled to talk about personal styling.
A talk by gardening guru Charles Dowding has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns. Planet Shaftesbury arranged this Friday’s (20th March) Town Hall event. Rachel Bodle told Alfred that the presentation will be rearranged. No future date has been set so far. People who bought tickets online have been refunded.
A visit by 23 residents of one of Shaftesbury’s twin towns, Lindlar in Germany, has been called off because of covid-19 and associated travel difficulties. Shaftesbury Twinning Association was preparing to receive a delegation from Lindlar, including five fire fighters. Their visit was planned to coincide with the Shaftesbury Festival and Cheese Races. 2021 will be the 40th anniversary of our town’s twinning with Lindlar. Shaftesbury residents are still intending to visit our French twin town of Brionne in September.
