Work to maintain and repair Shaftesbury’s town centre roads is planned in the New Year.
Dorset Council warns that with the current financial climate, they will focus on targeting the most damage sections and areas with safety issues.
The High Street, a portion of Coppice Street from the football Club towards town and the stretch of Salisbury Street from the Medical Centre entrance towards the town centre will all be closed at various times between the 18th and 30th of January. Those stretches of road will be shut between 9am and 4pm between the 18th and 25th of January.
The High Street is already closed at those times with the temporary pedestrianisation. There will be no changes to the temporary daytime High Street closure in the New Year. Pedestrianisation marshals will be briefed and the number of delivery vehicles entering the High Street will be tightly controlled during the road works.
On the 25th, 26th and 27th of January, the roads being maintained will only be open between 6am and 9am and again from 4pm to 7pm. On the 28th, 29th and 30th of January, the roads will be closed overnight from 7pm until 6am.
Urgent works to replace the gas main in Mustons Lane will start on 4th January and will last for three weeks. Residents will receive letters warning them of the potential for disruption
Dorset Council has said they believe that carrying out the works in the New Year will be least disruptive.
