Shaftesbury Carnival Club held its AGM on Zoom last night. It was their first annual general meeting since the death of former chairman Ray Humphries MBE in October.
Members spoke fondly of Ray’s immense contribution to Carnival and observed a one-minute silence in his memory.
Derek Beer described Ray as ‘Mr Shaftesbury’. “He always put everybody first. Ray devoted a really large part of his far-too-short life to carnival,” said Derek, adding “We have a duty to him and his family to carry on the good work and the traditions that he laid for us.”
Carnival Club chairman Rich Mullins announced the renaming of the annual car show in honour of its co-creator. The Ray Humphries Classic Car and Bike Show will be held at Barton Hill on Sunday 25th July.
No decision has been made on a carnival procession in October – Rich explains why during our Alfred interview.
