ABOUT ALFRED 107.3FM
Alfred is a not-for-profit community radio station broadcasting on 107.3FM from Shaftesbury.
Although we can be heard across a much wider area, we only talk about Shaftesbury and the SP7 postcode area. Alfred covers Shaftesbury, Motcombe, Melbury Abbas, Semley, Sedgehill, The Donheads, Ludwell, Berwick, Compton, Fontmell, Ashmore, Bedchester and East Stour in our broadcasts. We don’t feature news from other towns.
We’re local radio, staffed entirely by volunteers, and most of our programmes and interviews are recorded ‘on location’, although we have a small studio at Shaftesbury Arts Centre.
Our mix of local news and great stories starts at 6am on 107.3FM daily. And you can listen live here.
OUR COMMITMENTS
Alfred FM, like all local radio stations in the UK, has requirements regarding its local content such as news, speech levels, etc. These requirements are set out in the station ‘format’, a document issued by Ofcom.
Ofcom, the Office of Communications, is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications, and wireless communication services. Ofcom has published reports and regulations on community radio, which we abide by.
This ‘public file’ contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music and news. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output.
Note: Listen again services and online versions of Alfred has no requirement for a public file
All local radio stations have written formats, laid down by Ofcom, that they must follow at all times. You can find Alfred’s format on the Ofcom website here.
