Latest Lockdown Puts Arts Centre In ‘A Sticky Position’

The latest lockdown restrictions have forced the cancellation of all Shaftesbury Arts Centre activities. But the bills are still coming in.

Chairman Jenny Parker says they are ‘in a bit of a sticky position’.

The annual Snowdrops exhibition is one event that has been called off. It’s a disappointment for Shaftesbury artist Percy Lizzard – his art was chosen as the emblem of this year’s snowdrop competition at the Bell Street Gallery. The contest encourages dozens of local professional and amateur artists to display and sell their snowdrop-themed work.

Whilst Percy understands the reasons for the cancellation, he’s saddened that Shaftesbury area artists of all ages won’t enjoy their first taste of public exhibition and selling their work. He doesn’t believe that an online version of the exhibition, which sometimes features 100 submissions, can be arranged by 5th February.
