Last year, West Melbury artist Gary Cook told Alfred that he didn’t think art-buyers would purchase paintings of scenes from the lockdown period.
“I didn’t think people would want to be reminded of it,” said Gary. He’s delighted to admit he was wrong.
In the last year, Gary has painted fifteen views of French Mill Lane and Gascoigne’s Lane – his daily lockdown walking circuit. Two of the paintings will be on show at the Royal Institute of Painters ‘In Water Colours’ exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
Gary tells Alfred about his experience of spending a year focussing on such a compact area.
