The chairman of Shaftesbury Arts Centre says the volunteers are not going to rush to reopen the theatre when COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed.
Jenny Parker says it takes a lot of cleaning and effort for a very small audience and very little income.
Jenny says she doesn’t want to set a general date for the facility reopening despite the Prime Minister’s announcement. But the gallery will reopen as soon as non-essential shops can start up again.
Jenny says the Arts Centre has grown and become ‘a very big business’ in the fifteen years since they bought the shop and formed the gallery. The centre is run entirely by volunteers and they are keen to find new recruits.
