Shaftesbury’s town crier hosted a one-man mummers play at Stourhead today.
Cliff Skey tells Alfred’s Margaret Cluett about his next show, on the 9th January at the wassailing at Enmore Green’s Community Orchard. The ancient tradition represents the change in seasons.
The ‘mum’ in mummers comes from the middle English word for silence. These plays are performed without words.
