Calls For Speed Restrictions Following ‘Near Miss’ Outside Abbey Primary

A St James Street resident says a child could have been killed in a ‘near miss’ outside Abbey Primary School recently.

Charlotte McKay watched in horror as a youngster ran out in front of a car. Luckily the motorist was driving slowly and was able to take decisive action to avoid a collision.

This incident prompted Charlotte to address Shaftesbury Town Council on Tuesday night. She has called for a 20mph speed restriction for St James Street. Charlotte says the street resembles ‘a racetrack’ at times.
