Emma Vallender’s ‘Novel Idea’ Has Helped Shaftesbury Through The Lockdown

Britain’s book sales increased by 5% in 2020 as we found more time to read and Mampitts Lane resident Emma Vallender has provided a vital service with her free book exchange.

“This has actually been one of the highlights of my lockdown,” Emma told Alfred’s Mel Aldridge.

Emma is Gillingham School’s librarian. She tells Mel about her expansion plans, which were inspired by a trip to the book town of Hay-on-Wye.
