Most Shaftesbury-Area Residents Aged Over 70 Have Now Had Their First Coronavirus Jab

The Blackmore Vale GP practice, which includes Shaftesbury’s Abbey Medical Centre and Fontmell Magna surgery, has now given nearly all of their patients aged over 70 their first coronavirus jab.

Staff have vaccinated 6,400 people, including every resident of a care home. Managing partner Jane Dawes says her colleagues will focus on the next group – patients aged 65 or over – from today.

The Exchange in Sturminster is being used for vaccinations

“I think we kind of found our groove now and it seems to be working incredibly well,” Jane told Alfred. She says the decision to move vaccinations to The Exchange in Sturminster Newton was a good choice, but adds the rollout would not have been as efficient without the help of dozens of volunteers.
