Alfred meets the new headteacher of Shaftesbury School, Donna London-Hill.
Donna says one of her priorities in the role will be removing disadvantage within the school. She wants staff to help students broaden their horizons beyond the ‘cosy’ environment of a small rural town.
Donna is excited by the diversity that the school boarding house offers. During our interview, she recalls one student telling her, ‘my best friend comes from Hong Kong’.
Donna is proud of how her staff has risen to the COVID-19 challenge. Her colleagues have introduced testing for Shaftesbury School staff and pupils. Donna believes the school setting is safe and she would like pupils to return to on-site learning as soon as possible.
