Phone Friendship – A Lasting Legacy Of Shaftesbury’s Lockdown

Alfred hears about a special, long-lasting legacy of the lockdown.

Two Shaftesbury women, Karen and Gladys, have forged a phone friendship over the last nine weeks, even though they’ve never met.

Karen Wimhurst volunteered to support self-isolating locals. She ‘hit it off’ with 89-year-old Gladys, who shares Karen’s passion for music and nature. Karen has enjoyed hearing Gladys describe the pre-war landscape of the Shaftesbury area.

Gladys grew up on a farm in Ashmore and tells The Alfred Daily how her father cared for the wildlife.

Listen to Karen and Gladys at 12:21 on Wednesday’s Alfred Daily.
