Shaftesbury mayor Andy Hollingshead cut the ribbon to open the new community fridge at Open House on Wednesday morning.
Locals can now collect unwanted, fresh food at no charge. “I am staggered at the amount of food waste that there is in this country,” said Cllr Hollingshead.
Manager Nikki Hall tells Alfred that perishable food, which is still safe to eat, has been donated by supermarkets. Pesto and pasta have been given by Shaftesbury’s Virginia Hayward. “They’ve been very good to us over the years,” said Nikki.
