The extended hours at the minor injuries unit of Shaftesbury’s hospital are here to stay, according to the unit’s clinical lead, Nikki Packham.
Before the pandemic, the MIU service operated between 9am and 6pm weekdays with reduced weekend hours. In March, the hours of operation were extended to 8am to 8pm, seven days-a-week.
In our interview, Nikki tells us about more of the changes introduced since the pandemic struck and how patients can now access the service when they need medical help. Nikki also reveals the type of injury that has become more common during the lockdown.
