Shaftesbury Man Awarded OBE In New Year Honours

A Shaftesbury man has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.

Dr Stuart Edwards, who lives in St James’, is best known locally for his voluntary work. Stuart was deputy chairman of Shaftesbury’s Neighbourhood Plan and has recently been appointed as a trustee of Shaftesbury Abbey.

In October, Stuart helped to found FOSS, the Friends of Oasis Pool group. The organisation’s members are campaigning for an extension of the pool season and better facilities for Shaftesbury’s swimmers.

Stuart has been recognised for services to Adult and Further Education, chairing the governing body of Morley College in London. This challenging role required sensitivity and an understanding of the diverse and sometimes divided community, deeply affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
