Works to resurface the High Street, Salisbury Street and Coppice Street will be carried out through the night from this evening, Wednesday, until Sunday morning.
Jason Loibl says his Dorset Council team had wanted to complete the work during the day so they would not disrupt nearby residents. But too many pedestrians ignored safety guidance and ventured beyond barriers into the middle of the road works to get through the High Street. This made this working area unsafe.
On Monday afternoon, a water main burst in the High Street. Jason says the aged pipe cracked because of vibrations from the works. He explains how they’ve changed their methods of working to prevent a repeat incident.
