Shaftesbury Town Council will celebrate the end of the lockdown with the return of free yoga on the green at Castle Hill.
Last night, councillors unanimously agreed to repeat last summer’s Castle Green yoga sessions, adding pilates and tai chi to the schedule.
The first of the four Saturday sessions, on 26th June, will be held five days after the suggested end date for social distancing restrictions. “We are hoping to attract 100 people per session over the four weeks, which could mean 1,200 people or more at these events,” said Town Council business manager Brie Logan.
In our report, yoga tutor Kirsty Elliott explains how the free sessions made a real difference to an Abbey View Medical Centre patient who had been advised to attend by the practice’s social prescribing team.
Cllr Piers Brown wanted to move some of the sessions into his ward, which covers The Maltings and the east of Shaftesbury. Brie said Castle Hill Green ‘was the right place’ although different venues will be explored in future years.
