Youth Club Wants To Become Shaftesbury’s Community Centre – With Town Council Support

The Shaftesbury Youth Club on Coppice Street is our town’s most used hall and meeting room facility. You may be surprised by the range of activities that take place there.

In our Alfred interview, trustees Heather Sanger and Roxanne Gale will tell you more.

The building’s name is misleading. That’s why trustees intend to change their organisation’s identity and create a new governing body, which will better embrace the range of hall users.

Heather and Roxanne say they’ have been grateful for recent support from Shaftesbury Town councillors Tim Cook and Phil Proctor, and business manager Brie Logan. Last week, the trustees were granted a year-long lease from the Town Council. That offers the volunteers ‘breathing space’ to make changes and plan ahead.

The new lease arrangement was supported by nine of the eleven town councillors at last week’s Full Council meeting. In our interview, the women share their vision for expansion and improvement of the 50-year-old property to make it Shaftesbury’s community centre.
