North Dorset Nature – Episode 29

Our weekly programme devoted to wildlife in Shaftesbury and the villages, presented by Dee Abbott.

On this week’s show:

  • Ben Hussey and Natalie Bourchier dive into the fascinating world of lakes and the ecosystems within them. How many species can a body of water support? And what creatures lurk beneath the surface?
  • On a visit to Wardour Lake, Nick Crump is with Mariko Whyte, and she has brought along her echo detector to locate the Daubenton’s bats they can see flying across the lake. Sometimes referred to as the ‘water bat’, the Daubenton’s bat forages for small flies, such as midges, caddisflies, and mayflies, just above water.
