Angola ‘76 Lose Appeal And Cannot Trade As A ‘Drinking Establishment’

Angola ‘76’s future as a music venue and drinks venue appears uncertain.

The Planning Inspector has turned down a planning appeal by the bar’s operators against an enforcement notice issued by Dorset Council, citing noise complaints and noise regulation breaches. Shaftesbury Mayor Andy Hollingshead says he had been hoping for a ‘more positive outcome’.

Angola ’76

Angola 76’s manager Sally Francis tells Alfred that this ruling is unfair and could jeopardise livelihoods. Sally accepts that Angola ‘76 must make changes, but she insists that the venue must be allowed to serve alcohol to remain viable. She talks about future plans.

The inspector has also ruled that alterations to the courtyard must be reversed because the changes negatively impact on the Shaftesbury conservation area.
