Shaftesbury’s Lights Will Go On As Lockdown Ends

Shaftesbury’s Christmas lights will be turned on next Wednesday, 2nd December, to celebrate the end of the lockdown.

James Thrift is one of the Chamber of Commerce volunteers who arranges the display. He says you may notice the High Street and Bell Street lights will be lit before Wednesday. That is for testing purposes.

There won’t be a lighting-up ceremony this year because of COVID-19 restrictions and the Chamber has decided not to host one big late-night shopping event. Instead, businesses will open later each Monday in the run-up to Christmas on 7th, 14th and 21st December.

Santa will be outside Shaftesbury Town Hall on Sunday the 13th December. Expect some surprises, including live music. We’ll announce more details soon here on Alfred.

Next week, Alfred and Shaftesbury Chamber of Commerce will feature some of the unique and special gifts available on our High Street. We’re offering this free service to support our town’s traders in this difficult year. Stay tuned for more!

The Chamber of Commerce and Shaftesbury Town Council has arranged free parking with Dorset Council on Angel Lane and Bell street on 5th, 12th and 19th December. But beware – even though fees will be waived, you could receive a fine from Dorset Council if you park for longer than the maximum duration stay.
