Tesco has launched a legal challenge over Dorset Council’s decision to give planning permission to a Lidl supermarket on the Cattle Market site.
Tesco has requested a judicial review over the process. It’s a technical issue, centred on how far the Lidl store would be from the town centre if Tesco blocked direct footpath access across its car park.
Lidl has responded by submitting a new, slightly amended planning application.
Shaftesbury Town Council supported Lidl’s proposal last night, but the Planning Committee insisted on some changes to Lidl’s free car parking arrangements. They also want Lidl to listen to Shaftesbury Tree Group.
Dorset Council will make the final decision on the store’s amended plan.
