Dorset Council Decides Against Disposable Barbecue Ban

Dorset Council has decided not to introduce in a bylaw or system of fines to prevent people from using disposable barbecues or lighting cooking fires in open countryside.

New regulations had been suggested following the devastating Wareham Forest fire last year, which Shaftesbury firefighters attended for days.

Two North Dorset councillors argued against a barbecue ban because it would impact on residents who have no other outdoor space. And one local councillor spoke against an alternative plan to introduce dedicated barbecue sites at local beauty spots, because not everybody wants to smell cooking meat.
