Last Tuesday, Shaftesbury Town Council approved its new wildflower verge policy.
Many residents have reacted positively to the flowers growing on roundabouts and roadsides around town this summer. But the colourful mix doesn’t do enough to boost biodiversity, so a new approach will be taken.
Botanist Mariko Whyte is advising the Town Council. She explains how the land management will change and how different the roadside flowers will appear in the future.
