Why Extinction Rebellion ‘Reds’ Visited Shaftesbury’s Lidl

Shaftesbury environmental campaigners have staged a theatrical performance outside the town’s new Lidl store.

They made the statement about the felling of beech trees that had been planted along Christy’s Lane to mark the 80th birthday of the Queen Mother. Permission was granted to remove one tree for the entrance and another for the store sign, but three more beeches were felled because of damage sustained during store construction.

Lidl maintains it was an accident. Richard Foreman from XR Shaftesbury tells us more.
