Shaftesbury resident Joanna Tucholska appealed on Alfred for information about Polish army captain Stefan Nelken. He is buried in Mampitts Lane Cemetery.
Richard Gilroy contacted Alfred to share his research, which explains why eleven non-Commonwealth nationals were buried at the local graveyard during the war.
Richard says the Motcombe prisoner-of-war camp and Guys Marsh military hospital housed different nationalities during WW2. He’s learned how the former hospital pioneered some medical procedures.
