Two Grow Up In Dorset – 1970s Shaftesbury Holiday Jobs

Cousins Jackie Spiteri and Jeanette Hardiman remember their school and holiday jobs from their North Dorset childhood.

Jackie has clear memories of her time working at Shaftesbury’s former International Store and the Grosvenor Arms Hotel, where she dusted the famous Chevy Chase sideboard.

The friends remember working on decimal currency or ‘D-day.’ And Jeanette had a ‘thing’ about a Robinsons Greengrocers’ delivery boy, because he looked like one of the biggest pop stars of the day.
