Calls For More Shaftesbury CCTV As Young Residents Fear Muggings

Do you feel safe when you’re out and about at night here in Shaftesbury?

Our area has a very low crime rate, and Dorset remains one of the safest places to live in England. But Tuesday’s Shaftesbury Town Council meeting heard reports that members of the Shaftesbury School Youth Council have told councillors that they are wary when out after nightfall.

Cllr Piers Brown told the General Management Committee he was ‘sad’ that some students of different ages and genders feared being mugged. They have requested CCTV as part of the Mampitts Green hub proposals. Piers explains some of the other options open to the Town Council to address younger residents’ concerns.
