A controversial proposal for a housing estate on Shaftesbury’s northern slopes is being considered once again.
Developer Nylo Homes wants to build an estate of 23 affordable homes alongside New Road and the B3081. They first applied to build housing at Enmore Court in 2018. Dorset Council received over 200 objections to that proposal to develop the three-acre, triangle-shaped paddock.
Motcombe Parish and Shaftesbury Town Councils objected to the first application, which was then refused by Dorset Council. On appeal, the Planning Inspector considered the development ‘harmful’ to its setting.
Nylo submitted a new proposal for affordable homes last autumn. Shaftesbury councillors maintained their opposition, but Dorset Council has failed to determine whether those proposals may go ahead within the required timeframe, so the Bournemouth-based developer Nylo Homes has lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspector.
The Planning Inspectorate will now decide whether the estate can be built.
