Dorset Council Needs To Spend Shaftesbury Car Park Fees On Local Roads- Says Town Council

Shaftesbury Town councillors have again shared their dissatisfaction over Dorset Council’s proposed parking fee changes.

Parking in Angel Lane and Bell Street car parks will be more expensive than in Gillingham. Dorset Council is planning to standardise car parking rates across its area from January. Shaftesbury has been placed in bands two of three.

Planning meeting chair Virginia Edwyn-Jones maintains that it’s unfair that Gillingham is in the cheaper band one, and she is unhappy that Shaftesbury is being grouped with larger population centres.

Cllr John Lewer

Cllr John Lewer went further. He listed a range of highways issues and problems that he said Dorset Council should have resolved using money gleaned from Shaftesbury parking charges.
