Dorset Council Should Use New Car Parking Income To Fund Shaftesbury HGV Ban Says Councillor

St John’s Hill was closed on Monday afternoon after an HGV got stuck on the slope.

The vehicle had been despatched from ABP foods near Sturminster Newton. Their financial controller Sam Pettit told Alfred that most drivers are given route guidance and told to avoid that steep part of the B3091.

Peter Shouler lives on the hill and has been campaigning for a 7.5-tonne weight limit for year. He wants to know why Dorset Council hasn’t responded to Shaftesbury Town Council’s request for the restriction, which was made last summer.

Dorset Council hasn’t replied to Alfred’s questions.

Town councillor John Lewer says Dorset Council should use their extra income from extended parking fees to pay for the HGV restriction.
