Melbury Abbas parish councillors have unanimously supported a new housing development alongside the B3081, opposite Melbury Motors.
Poole-based Read Quality Homes has promised the parish council a free flat or a one-bedroom house if the estate is built. Parish council chairman William Kenealy hopes that it will generate income for the council.
The application requests permission for 30 homes but the developer’s agent told Wednesday’s meeting that they wanted to build 23 properties. The plans also include a convenience store.
Concerns about traffic, the appearance of the homes and the impact on the AONB were raised in the meeting.
