A banner declaring Melbury Abbas as ‘the village of the jammed’ has made quite an impression on drivers for years.
It’s been hung by villagers to highlight the pressure placed on the local road network after southbound HGV drivers were encouraged to use the C13 road through Dinah’s Hollow and the village.
Cllr Derek Coombes explains why the sign won’t be returning in its current form. He says Parish councillors are still not in the loop over Dorset Council’s plan to remove trees and foliage from Dinah’s Hollow. The Parish Council has learned that the costs of the works have increased significantly since the decision was made to undertake the £4.3m project to stabilise slopes and prevent landslips in April 2021.
