On Wednesday’s Alfred Daily, Shaftesbury Town councillor, Piers Brown, explained why he wants town councillors to back his motion for permanent High Street pedestrianisation.
A majority vote at Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting will instruct Dorset Highways to start a lengthy consultation process.
The announcement bought a strong reaction from Bell Street resident Christopher Price. He says that he supports High Street pedestrianisation but there needs to be consideration of residents of Bell Street and the town centre streets that run parallel to the High Street. These side streets have carried extra traffic since the road closures came into force.
