Shaftesbury Car Parking Charges Extended To Evenings And Sundays

You’ll soon have to pay to use Shaftesbury’s Dorset Council-owned car parks between 8am and 8pm every day.

Dorset councillor Derek Beer and Chamber of Commerce vice-chairman David Perry are unhappy. They both claim the introduction of Sunday fees and the extension of charges to the period 6pm to 8pm will affect town centre residents.

The new charging periods will apply to all Dorset towns. Dorset Council says fees have not increased for some time and they have lost £2m in car park revenue across the county during the lockdown.

Derek and David question the financial argument when Shaftesbury’s Angel Lane car park ticket machine has been faulty and unable to accept coin payments since June. Dorset Council responds.
