Shaftesbury Mayor Refutes Councillors’ Claim That Council Acted Unlawfully

Shaftesbury’s mayor, Cllr Andy Hollingshead, says the town council is not acting unlawfully by excluding councillors from meetings when they fail to respond to requests to moderate their behaviour.

Cllrs Peter Yeo and Karen Tippins claim that the council has no authority to exclude them. They are also unhappy because they have not been chosen by fellow members to serve on council committees. They claim this is undemocratic.

But the mayor believes this represents democracy in action.
