Shaftesbury Pedestrianisation Could Take Five Years – Consultation Won’t Start Before April ‘22

Dorset Council Highways staff answered public questions face-to-face last week.

In our report, Cllr Derek Beer talks about the areas of Shaftesbury where residents want a speed reduction or speed mitigation measures. Members of the public also raised the bus gate issue and the adoption of the roads on The Maltings.

Cllr Derek Beer

Two people went along to voice their opposition to any future pedestrianisation of the High Street. There needs to be a full consultation before changes are made. But Derek Beer says that process won’t begin until April 2022 at the earliest, because of budgets. And he doesn’t expect pedestrianisation, if traffic restrictions are considered practical, to be introduced for years. He says it might not happen until as late as 2026!
