Shaftesbury Town Council And Dorset Council Leaders Re-Elected For Another Year

Shaftesbury Town Council and Dorset Council leaders were re-elected for another year last night.

Cllrs Andy Hollingshead and Alex Chase will serve as Shaftesbury’s mayor and deputy mayor again. Both men were supported by nine of the eleven town councillors. Cllrs Tippins and Yeo voted against their appointment, although there were no other candidates for these roles.

Cllr Andy Hollingshead was re-elected mayor.

At Dorset Council, Cllr Val Pothecary said it was a ‘huge honour and privilege’ to continue as chair. She comfortably beat Cllr Paul Kimber by 72 votes to 6. Cllr Spencer Flower will remain leader, a position he first gained in 2019.

Both Dorset Council and Shaftesbury Town Council have had to change their decision-making process because they can’t hold online meetings after 6th May. Neither authority has a large enough space to host socially distanced public meetings. As you’ll hear, the government directive is proving a challenge.
