Shaftesbury Town councillors voted unanimously to object to Dorset Council’s proposed ‘bus gate’ on Mampitts Lane last night.
“I don’t see how we could possibly go ahead with it,” said mayor Andy Hollingshead.
Opponents of the restriction told last night’s Planning meeting that it will force them to use more fuel when driving to town. And that longer journey will increase emissions.
But the meeting also heard representations from a councillor and a Fair Lane resident who want the bus gate installed to tackle ‘rat run’ traffic and speeding issues.
Dorset Council has the final decision.
