Why Shaftesbury Councillors Object To New Town Centre Housing Plans

Shaftesbury Town councillors have objected to the latest set of plans for redeveloping the former ATS site opposite the Bell Street car park.

Last time the application went before planners, there were proposals to build 18 homes on this plot. It’s been empty since the tyre fitters was demolished and some councillors have described this space as, ‘an eyesore’.

Now the developer wants to construct 24 properties here. The new Town Council Planning Committee chairman Virginia Edwyn-Jones says she can’t support what she considers to be ‘woolly’ plans. And councillors have an issue with affordable home provision, as you’ll hear.

Barbara Yoxall from Pepperell House sheltered accommodation, formerly Abbeyfield, fears this development could put her residents’ safety at risk.
