A busy bank holiday weekend brought a boost for Shaftesbury businesses.
We speak with High Street pedestrianisation marshal Mike Shoemark, Conrad Sandison at King Alfred’s Kitchen and Emily and James Delport-King at Seasons Café. Karen Brazier at retailer Folde Dorset said she was ‘phenomenally busy’ on Saturday.
David Taylor of Shaftesbury TIC reckons we’re in for a busy season. “If you just look at the number of hotel bookings that are taken up already in the area, that would be an indication that people are going to be coming,” he said.
We also visit Shaftesbury Abbey and hear how the Steps in Time dancers drew in the crowds with their first performance since September 2019. The Abbey enjoyed impressive visitor numbers as manager Penny-Jane Swift explains in our report.
