In March, Alfred spoke with Dorset councillor Ray Bryan about plans for dealing with an expected influx of summer visitors.
Ray said North Dorset would be promoted through a ‘pan-Dorset’ plan to spread the tourism load away from the coast. Yesterday, Dorset Council cabinet member for the economy, Tony Ferrari, offered Alfred a progress update.
Tony told us that North Dorset had not previously received the tourism promotion ‘it deserves’. And he casts some doubt over whether the tourism ambassador scheme of recruiting volunteers to meet and greet tourists will work, claiming it’s ‘touch and go’.
We ask him what’s being done to make sure visitors discover tourism experiences in Shaftesbury and the surrounding villages. And Tony explains some of the challenges.
