Shaftesbury Town Council is supporting a planning application for a new café at the former Angola ’76 premises.
The Mustons Lane venue had been trading as a café bar and music venue without planning consent. Earlier this year, its operators were unsuccessful in an attempt to overturn a refusal of planning permission. The planning inspector ruled that the business could no longer operate as a drinking establishment due to a series of noise complaints.
During Tuesday’s Shaftesbury Town Council Planning meeting, a relative of a nearby resident urged town councillors to oppose this new application because he felt the premises would still be run like a pub and that would disturb neighbours.
Applicant Sally Francis told councillors that live music and DJ sets would not feature at her new venture. It will be relaunched as ‘Muston’s’ if Dorset Planners approve the application.
Sally says she is proposing a seated, dining establishment. Councillors unanimously supported Sally’s appeal for support with what she termed her ‘last opportunity’.
Dorset Council planners will have the final say.
